SHAKE THE DUST Promo. A dope and endearing documentary about Bboying. I should’ve watched it when it was introduced to me a while back, but I’m glad I did now. A promo for an film on International Bboying, told through the stories of children in impoverished nations. Videos, films, and pictures like this inspire and touch me, eliciting empathy and compassion towards kids that have fully immersed their lives and hearts into Hip Hop. I relate in a sense that I found comfort, joy, and my identity in Hip Hop culture. I’ve written previous posts about this and will continue to tell people because I truly believe pure HIp Hop changes lives and uplifts individuals. When mainstream media and big business aim to capitalize on the culture, it leads to a negative image of Hip Hop. People still don’t understand that it transcends the rap music on the radio and the gaudy MC’s in Music Videos. There is a real, positive movement in the culture to promote benevolence, community building, and passion for art, dance, and music. I, for one, consider myself a Bboy, who has to maneuver my way around Hollywood to provide an authentic voice for the culture. Hip Hop changes lives because it comes from the soul, a raw passion for art and love for a community of individuals that try to preserve the culture that made them who they are today.
